Friends and Colleagues,

As I begin my term as President of ACMT, I am encouraged and inspired by the warm welcome so many have provided. It is humbling to follow in the footsteps of steadfast leadership that has provided continued growth for the organization and our specialty. As ACMT continues to increase its impact, I look forward to furthering our mission and am honored to take on the challenge that awaits.

Our future is healthy and ready to advance onward. ACMT has strategically sought out grants and contracts with the goal of expanding medical toxicology’s footprint. We have secured grant support from CDC, NIDA, FDA, the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry, and SAMHSA among others. This internal growth is complemented by the record increase in medical toxicology fellowship applicants this past year. With this combination, we are poised to advance our specialty as a valued and recognized contributor to improve health care within the country and across the globe.

Medical Toxicology will thrive through value-driven health care. We strive to provide better health, better care, and lower costs based on research from many of our contributing members. This growth provides opportunities to have even greater impact in areas such as the prevention of adverse drug events and pharmaceutical stewardship.

We are seeing positive impacts from the growing relationships with our federal partners as seen with the implementation earlier this year of the CDC dashboard “The Fentalog Study: A Subset of Nonfatal Suspected Opioid-Involved Overdoses with Toxicology Testing” utilizing data from ACMT’s Toxicology Investigators Consortium (ToxIC.) We now have multiple collaborative projects ongoing with leading federal organizations. There is a great demand for our expertise and key stakeholders are taking notice.

We continue to focus on developing educational resources and other opportunities to benefit our members. This May we offered a new virtual workshop, "Pathways to Building and Sustaining a Medical Toxicology Practice," which is still available on-demand. The Medical Toxicology in Industry Rotation for fellows, a wide array of travel awards for students and residents, and a number of grant opportunities for you to advance research from support at the Medical Toxicology Foundation. I encourage you to review our website and explore all our many offerings.

As your President, I will continue to work hard to advance our specialty and support you. I envision my term as an opportunity to continue our unwavering commitment to steady growth and positive impact to our patients and health care overall. I am excited for the future of medical toxicology and am committed to ACMT and my friends in medical toxicology everywhere.
