AACT Symposium | Murder by Milligram: Investigating Surreptitious Poisonings


Join the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology (AACT) on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 for the #ACMT2025 Pre-Symposium: Murder by Milligram: Investigating Surreptitious Poisonings at the Fairmont Hotel in Vancouver, Canada.

This half-day symposium will explore the clinical and forensic complexities of managing a patient with surreptitious poisonings. The program will address themes including pre hospital management, diagnostic challenges, differential diagnosis in the emergency setting and analytical testing to aid in the diagnosis. Expert-led sessions will guide attendees through the nuances of patient care, from analytical testing to effective media communication and expert witness testimony.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Analyze the clinical presentation and diagnostic strategies for thallium poisoning to improve patient assessment and management.
  2. Evaluate the effectiveness of various pre-hospital and emergency interventions in cases of suspected thallium toxicity.
  3. Asses the role and responsibilities of a medical expert witness, including effective communication strategies for media and courtroom settings.
