Despite alcohol being the most widely misused substance in the United States, significant treatment gaps exist for patients with Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD), largely due to a lack of knowledge among healthcare providers about screening, diagnosing, and treating AUD. Polysubstance use involving alcohol is a major public health and clinical concern, and alcohol use is often under-recognized when other drugs are present. This webinar aims to:

  • Describe the epidemiology of alcohol use among those who use opioids and stimulants.
  • Examine the concurrent drugs present in polysubstance overdoses involving alcohol compared to those without alcohol.
  • Discuss the implications of AUD screening and treatment in the emergency department, especially in the context of opioid or stimulant overdoses.
