The webinar series that was initiated in 2018 as the "3rd Friday Addiction/Toxicology Case Conference” has grown its reach and accessibility significantly over the course of 2020. The series was originally a collaboration jointly hosted by ACMT, the University of Rochester Medical Center Tox/Addiction program, and the SUNY Upstate Medical Toxicology fellowship. Dr. Timothy Wiegand, FACMT has presented cases and moderated discussion along with co-moderator, Dr. Gloria Baciewicz, Professor of Clinical Psychiatry, University of Rochester Medical Center, and Medical Director of Strong Recovery.

With the onset of the global pandemic, a new partnership was formed in April 2020 between ACMT and the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) to present cases predominantly focused on the addiction medicine specialty in the new world of COVID-19. With this new partnership, webinar attendance and participation numbers have grown significantly. CME credits have been made available through support from ASAM for webinars produced from April 2020 through January 2021. Collaborative efforts further expanded to include a partnership with the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry/Opioid Response Network (AAAP/ORN) for webinars presented from September 2020 through January of 2021.

“Thanks to all the expert panelists from ACMT, ASAM, and other guest panelists that have participated and most eloquently shared their expertise. In the past 6 months in particular joining with the AAAP/ORN has given us an incredible opportunity to showcase our specialty and skill set to a broader audience with over 500 attendees in November alone,” said webinar organizer Dr. Wiegand.

All webinars in the series are available online. This content is an excellent resource for Medical Toxicologists wanting more exposure to expand their practice in addiction medicine. This is also useful material for training curriculum for Medical Toxicology providers looking to add dual certification in ADM through the practice pathway in Addiction Medicine, which has been extended another 4 years beyond 2021.

A new FAQ page for the webinar series has been created and will continue to expand. After a brief one-month hiatus in February, the ACMT/ASAM Addiction Toxicology webinar series will return on March 5, 2021. The partnership with ASAM is set to continue through July 2021.
