New ACMT SAMHSA grant providing education on Substance Use Disorder

ACMT’s SAMHSA grant provides education to emergency medicine residents and medical toxicology fellows on Substance Use Disorder (SUD). It also sets out to develop and implement exam questions related to SUD on licensing and certification exams.

During the first quarter of the grant, ACMT has developed a number of online courses on topics such as the Screening and Assessment of the SUD Patient, Treatment - Opioids, Treatment -  Stimulants, Cannabis, Benzodiazepine, and Alcohol Use Disorders and Other Key Issues (special topics including SUD in the pregnant patient and urine drug testing). Interactive eLearning modules on these topics are being housed in the Substance Use Screening and Treatment Approach in the Emergency Department (SUSTAIN-ED) Classroom (https://www.sustain-ed.net/) and are currently being piloted by Medical Toxicology rotators at several institutions.

The program is set to go live to 11 emergency residencies and 12 medical toxicology fellowships in mid-March.
