Year End President’s Message
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
As the year comes to a close, we would like to take a moment to celebrate our members, and a year filled with achievements and growth!
Some highlights this year include receiving FDA-funding for a new ACMT/ToxIC project, "Real-world Examination of Naloxone for Drug Overdose Reversal" (RENDOR), which aims to explore the effectiveness of naloxone in reversing drug overdoses in prehospital settings. Additionally the FDA has extended funding for ToxIC’s "Drug Overdose Toxico-Surveillance" (DOTS) program to expand on ongoing research efforts. These grants not only fuel ACMT's growth, but also amplify its nationwide impact on healthcare.Â
ACMT is also pleased to report that on November 8th the second highest medical toxicology fellowship applicant pool to to date entered in the Match. This remarkable achievement reflects the growing interest and recognition of medical toxicology as a specialty.
ACMT continues to provide numerous opportunities for medical toxicology education, research funding, and engagement. We are in the process of notifying travel awardees, while the Shark Tank,  Med Tox Case Panel, and Open Mic Competitions remain open for further applications. Applications for the ANTIDOTE Institute, as well as ACMT Board, ToxIC, and JMT Editor FIT Programs will be due in mid-January.Â
The Medical Toxicology Foundation (MTF) has recently launched its Annual Campaign. We encourage members and supporters to consider making a tax-deductible gift before year’s end. Contributions from generous individuals have played a pivotal role in continued opportunities to provide travel awards to attend the Annual Scientific Meeting, and funding crucial research and education initiatives. Every donation, no matter the amount, can make a lasting impact on the future of medical toxicology research, education and patient care.Â
We would like to express our gratitude for the important work of our members, recognizing their invaluable contributions to the field of medical toxicology. With a strong commitment to steady growth, we strive to make a positive impact for the specialty, our members, patients, and the future of medical toxicology in 2024.
We wish you and your family a happy and healthy holiday season, and look forward to seeing you at the 2024 Annual Scientific Meeting and Symposia in DC next spring!
