Kathy Kopec, DO, FACMT Board Member (Term 1: 2023-2026)

Biography

Following her fellowship, Dr. Kopec worked at Duke University for two years before moving to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC, where she has been since 2015. She is currently a Professor of Emergency Medicine at Carolinas Medical Center and the Director of the Medical Toxicology Division at her institution. Dr. Kopec is also the medical toxicology rotation director for medical students, residents, and fellows at CMC. Dr. Kopec is actively involved with her hospital's medical toxicology fellowship program and inpatient medical toxicology consultation service.

Dr. Kopec has been involved with ACMT since her fellowship in 2012 when she served as the first ACMT board intern. She has been a member of the ACMT Education and International Committee since 2014 and was also a member of the ACMT Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) Planning Committee in 2017, 2018, and 2019 before becoming the lead organizer of ACMT ASM for 2020, 2021, 2024 and 2025. She received the Medical Toxicology Foundation Innovative Research and Teaching Grant in 2017. Dr. Kopec was awarded the Education Committee Service Award in 2021 for her contributions to the educational mission of ACMT.

Education

Dr. Kopec completed medical school at Michigan State College of Osteopathic Medicine. She then completed her emergency medicine residency and medical toxicology fellowship at Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA.
