Lewis Nelson, MD, FACMT MTF Board Member

Biography

Dr. Lewis Nelson serves as the Professor and Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in Newark, NJ where he is also the Chief of the Division of Medical Toxicology. He provides direct clinical care to patients in the emergency department and serves as a senior consultant to the New Jersey Poison Information & Education System (NJPIES). Dr. Nelson is a Past-President of the American College of Medical Toxicology and pleased to be a Director of the Medical Toxicology Foundation. In 2018, he was recognized by his peers and presented with ACMT’s Career Achievement Award which honors an individual who has made extraordinary contributions to the field of medical toxicology in teaching, clinical practice, research, and service.

Education

Dr. Nelson received his Doctor of Medicine, Cum Laude, from State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn (Downstate), NY. He completed his residency in emergency medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine and a fellowship in medical toxicology at New York University School of Medicine. Dr. Nelson received a Bachelor of Science degree from Emory University, and in 2022, he earned an MBA from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management, Brandeis University.
